Memos

The purpose of the game:

A memory matching game where students pair words with definitions, translations, pictures, etc. Builds quick recall and word recognition.

How to play:

Shuffle all the cards thoroughly and lay them out face down in a neat grid or rows and columns on a flat surface. Players take turns to flip cards.
On a turn, a player flips over two cards so everyone can see them.
If the two cards match, the player keeps the pair.
If the two cards do not match, they are flipped back over face down in their original spots.
Then the next player takes a turn.
All players must pay attention and remember where specific cards are located when they are turned over.
The winner is the one who collects the most matches.

Ideas for the classroom:

Print on card and laminate for a reusable class set.
Use as a mingling find-a-pair activity to pair up students.
Use word–translation pairs for revision before a test.

I'd recommend printing on thick paper so the words don't show through. For thin paper, the PDF has a second page with the TOK Games logo on every card back: print double-sided (flip on long edge) and the logo hides any see-through.

How to create:

Choose Text + Text or Text + Picture. Maximum 10 pairs (20 cards).

Text + Text: write one pair per line, with a / between the two parts:

happy / sad
dog / chien
big / large

Text + Picture: type a word in each row and add a matching picture — upload it from your computer, paste an image link, or search free pictures.

Click Generate PDF, print the sheet and cut along the dashed lines.
